When choosing a Wooden Gate we believe there are 4 quality areas you should look for to ensure that you will be satisfied with the end result:
Timber selection
We make gates in a variety of different woods to suit our customers tastes. From air dried European Oak to exotic hardwood to pitch pine. Timber comes in a wide varety of grades- we only use the best. We reject any timber which does not meet our exacting standards.
Construction
All our timber gates are made in our own carpenters shop by a team of time served craftsmen. The construction of the gates is of the highest quality. The joints for instance are fully mortised , pegged and wedged.
Finish
Maintaining the finish on wooden gates can be problematic. Some treatments look good for 12 months but deteriorate quickly there after. We use the best quality treatment on our gates this is a 2 pack system consisting of Sikkens™ Cetol HLS base stain and a Filter 7 UV protector coat. We find that it gives at least 3 years of good protection before a light sanding and a further application of Filter 7 is needed.
Fitting
When we fit our timber gates we use fully adjustable custom made hinges, not cheap hook and band sets from the ironmonger- The reason for this is that the gates will shrink and expand depending on the seasons and may well jam or bind. Our adjustable hinges quickly remedy this problem.
The gallery shows examples of gates we have made- we can build any style of gate to your commission if you require.
